A fantastic antique jug, British made in the 1830s, by Deakin and Sons in Stafforshire. Octagonal in shape, printed in sepia, then hand painted and detailed in green, pink and blue. The dancing chorus, urn and lyre shapes are inspired by the 19th century interest in ancient Greece during the fashionable Grand Tour era. This is their pattern 21, not formally named but sometimes known as 'vases and lyre'.
There is a small crack to the inside of the jug and some discolouration of the glaze commensurate with age. 18cm tall.
