A super relief moulded, hand painted 1930s jug by Burleigh (Burgess and Leigh). Hand painted with a scene of "the Runaway Marriage - a romantic couple being married by the blacksmith of Gretna Green". The other side of the jug shows the bride's furious father riding to stop the wedding and the verse "The dangers of the long night's ride are past. In Gretna Green they find themselves at last. The friendly Smith awhile his work resigns. To hear from them the oft repeated lines". The happy couple have eloped! A lovely engagement or wedding present.
